Online sexual harassment is any unwanted sexual behaviour or engagement that takes place online.There are many types of digital sexual harassment that affect people on the daily, namely: revenge porn, body shaming, bullying, unwanted sexting or sexual advances and photo editing.
Unwanted online sexual behaviour can happen anywhere online, from social media, messaging apps, gamimg platforms etc.One way to combat digital sexual harassment is by being an active bystander. Being an active bystander means when a person is being harassed online, you do not engage the content however report the harasser's account. Try to offer support to the recipient of the digital sexual harassment.
This past week the Transformation Office (#SpeakOutUP) together with the CSA&G (Just Leaders) commemorated the SAAW.
On Monday, there was a digital campaign launch that was focused on digital sexual assult which set the tone for the rest of the week.Followed by wall pledges on Tuesday which saw a great turnout. On Wednesday, there was a workshop at the Akanyang building that focused on sexual harassment and how it can manifest itself in digital spaces.Finally on Thursday, there was an activation outside the Akanyang building which raised awareness on sexual assault month.
