Contributing to the smooth functioning of the department and seeing the impact of our work on students and the faculty is particularly fulfilling.

What challenges have you encountered in your career and how did you navigate these?

One challenge has been adapting to changes in University policies and procedures, which can affect financial management and administrative processes. To navigate this, I maintain open communication with stakeholders, stay informed about policy updates, and proactively seek solutions that align with departmental goals and University guidelines.

Aside from your role at UP, what other activities are you involved in?

Outside of my role at UP, I am involved in Christian ministry, singing, and motivating and supporting mainly youth in my community. I enjoy ministering and singing, which provide a creative outlet and help me to recharge outside of work.

Do you have any special skills or hidden talents?

I have a talent for singing, which often surprises colleagues who only know me for my administrative expertise.

What are your ambitions and hopes for women in South Africa?

I aspire to see more women in leadership roles across all sectors, including academia and administration. My hope is to contribute to creating inclusive environments where women can excel and offer their unique perspectives and talents.

Can you share with us a moment when you felt empowered as a woman?

One empowering moment was when I overcame a challenge between a colleague and a student. I was proud of myself because I resolved the situation, offering the student procedures to address the concerns and amicably resolving the situation peacefully.

What impact do you wish to make on society?

Through my current role as an administrator, I aim to make a positive impact by ensuring the efficient use of resources, supporting academic success, and fostering a culture of integrity and accountability.

What life lesson or motto would you like to impart?

Whether it’s my professional responsibilities or personal pursuits, I believe that every challenge presents an opportunity for growth and improvement. Aiming for excellence pushes me to learn, grow and make a meaningful impact. As Mahatma Gandhi said: “Be the change you wish to see in the world.”
