Tax@Tuks, the official society for Taxation students at the University of Pretoria, received four prestigious awards at the Commercii year-end function in.

The Commercii year-end function is an annual event during which student societies that fall under the umbrella of the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences (EMS) are given recognition for their outstanding efforts in organising events aimed at promoting student betterment and involvement within EMS. Tax@Tuks walked away with two of the top three prizes, namely Best Society (first prize) and Event of the Year (third prize).

The Tax@Tuks Networking Event was awarded the Networking Opportunities Award. At this event, Taxation and Law students at UP were given opportunities to network with top corporate entities and innovative thought leaders who came to present to the ever-eager students. Tax@Tuks was also awarded the Professionalism Award, for the professional standard of its reports, administration and financial records, which was administered by the Events Portfolio representative, Alex Van der Laan.

The Tax@Tuks team wear the Tax@Tuks badge with great pride, humbled by the opportunities afforded them, such as to assist the South African Institute of Tax Professionals in hosting their SAIT Tax Student Conference in March this year, as well as the Tax Indaba Conference later this year. The team is also grateful for the close relationship they have established with their sponsor, EY Africa.

Tax@Tuks is empowered by the slogan, “Young professionals increasing tax awareness and promoting student educational leadership”. As the Executive Committee of 2014/15 close the last chapter of this incredible journey, they walk away content in knowing that they have achieved just that: Professionalism, tax awareness and student educational leadership.
