Annual Biostatistics Symposium

For the first time in the year 2022, the Department of Statistics hosted the Biostatistics and Machine Learning symposium at the main campus in July 2022.  Delegates and attendees world wide met for the 3 day symposium and workshops.  The Department of Statistics is very pleased with the turnaround of attendance.  Thank you to all that attended the 2022 symposium.  Thank you! Baie dankie! Rea leboga! Check this page for the announcement of the 2023 symposium.

Biostatistics is a scientific field with an integral role in modern medicine and health sciences, from designing clinical trials and intervention studies to analyzing data to determining whether a new vaccine or treatment has intended effectiveness in real life. Modern biostatistics is at the forefront of modern health research data science analytics to seek solutions for emerging diseases and health problems, often with enormous analytical complexities that arise from using high-dimensional and big health data. The symposium will further focus on machine learning for effective implementation in Biostatistics. The theme of this international symposium is to bring together researchers in South Africa and internationally to share research and development in biostatistical modeling and health-related applications, with workshops on machine learning.
