Dr Beth Le Roux receives a Newton Mobility Grant

Posted on May 14, 2018

Dr Beth Le Roux, Associate Professor at the Department of Information Science, Faculty of Engineering, Built Environment and Information Technology has been awarded a Newton Mobility Grant to the value of just over £9 000 by the British Academy.

The grant is for a collaborative research project titled ‘Histories of Publishing Under Apartheid’, between Dr Le Roux and Dr Caroline Davis of Oxford Brookes University, UK. This project seeks to examine the role of publishing in the cultural struggle, both for and against apartheid, in South Africa. It will build upon an existing partnership and support new research in print culture and publishing studies to address the activities of publishers, authors and readers within a repressive environment. In terms of the grant, Dr Le Roux will travel to the UK in 2018/19 to conduct research, and host workshops on book history in South Africa. The main purpose of these workshops is to encourage further research and build capacity among early career researchers in the field of publishing history.

Congratulations to Dr Le Roux for this achievement.
