Posted on August 29, 2019

Zakkiya Khan is a lecturer in the interior architecture programme. She has been appointed to serve on a global educational policy taskforce for the International Federation of Interior Architects/Designers (IFI).

“Led by Co-Chairs IFI President-Elect Titi Ogufere and Professors Joanne Cys and Suzie Attiwill, with input by IFI Executive Board and the international community, this special IFI Education Taskforce 2019 will formulate a current Interiors education stance worthy of the evolution of the Interiors discipline. With extended community input into various stages of this initiative, including feedback on the comparative research outcomes, advice and feedback on questionnaire design, and advice and input into the structure of the IFI IA/D Education Policy workshop (that will be held as part of IFI’s 2019 Congress in Dubai in November), the Taskforce members will help to convene and conduct the Congress workshop and take charge of drafting a refreshed Education Policy document. This up-to-date education policy will be further employed as the basis for evaluation of future curricula and accreditation of Interior Architecture/Design education programs as and when applicable.” (IFI statement on the task force).

Participation in the taskforce is a prestigious activity and an endorsement of the Interior Architecture programme at the Department of Architecture, University of Pretoria. As an educational member of the International Federation of Interior Architects/Designers, the Department of Architecture ensures that students of interior architecture receive a globally relevant, quality education.

“The International Federation of Interior Architects / Designers (IFI) is the global voice and authority for professional Interior Architects / Designers. It is the singular international federating body for Interior Architecture / Design organizations. IFI acts as a global forum for the exchange and development of knowledge and experience in worldwide education, research and practice. IFI connects the international community to further the impact, influence and application of the design of interiors, promote global social responsibility and raise the status of the profession worldwide.” (IFI official webpage description).

Zakkiya Khan will be participating in the IFI’s congress and the educational policy workshop to provide input as a taskforce member in Dubai later this year.
