Composers National Collegium

The Composers National Collegium is a Ministerial Catalytic Special Project of the Humanities managed by the National Institute for Humanities and Social Sciences (NIHSS). The general goal is to reinforce and potentialised disciplines in the Humanities in the tertiary education sector - in this case in music composition; namely the Formation of a Composers’ Development Initiative.

This Initiative, managed by the Music Division of the University of the Witwatersrand, was launched in 2013 - for the advancement and promotion of South African composers nationally and the disseminating and performance of new original compositions by creative musicians working within academia. At present four universities nationally are represented. An annual workshop and concert will showcase the works of young emerging composers, coupled with the work/s of established composer/s. This annual event will be presented alternately in Gauteng and in the Cape.
