Jordaan, Abri

 

b. 24 April 1956, Port Elizabeth, South Africa

 

South African guitarist, composer and teacher. Abri Jordaan studied at the University of Pretoria, completing his BA in 1981. He began teaching the guitar at the University of Pretoria as a part-time lecturer in 1982, and today teaches guitar there and at Pretoria Boys High School and at Crawford College in Pretoria. He also examines for the University of South Africa, adjudicates regularly at competitions and music festivals, and has set the guitar syllabi for various institutions. Jordaan has given many solo recitals, and as one half of the guitar duo Abryvon (with the Belgian guitarist Yvon Syx), he made several recordings for South African radio and television. The duo toured extensively throughout the Southern African region and undertook a concert tour of Europe in 1992. He is currently a committee member of the Guitar Society of South Africa.
