Six extra-ordinary professors are appointed on an annual basis and primarily assist with academic supervision of masters and doctoral students, they are:

Prof Saths Cooper
Extra-Ordinary Professor
We are proud to announce that Prof Saths Cooper, one of our Extra-Ordinary Professors, is one of the first cohort of 66 Foundation Fellows of the International Science Council. Prof Cooper is a graduate of the Universities of South Africa and Witwatersrand, and Boston University, where he obtained his PhD in Clinical/Community Psychology as a Fulbright scholar in 1989. Prof Cooper is the President of the Pan-African Psychology Union, and the past president of the International Union of Psychological Science and the Psychological Society of South Africa respectively. 
 
 
 
 
Prof Cindy Crusto
Extra Ordinary Professor
Cindy A. Crusto, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Psychology in Psychiatry, Yale University School of Medicine, is the Director of Program and Service System Evaluation at The Consultation Center. Dr. Crusto has more than 15 years of experience in developing, implementing, and evaluating preventive interventions in schools and community agencies. She also has extensive experience providing training and technical assistance to schools and to community-based organizations on the evaluation of prevention programs.

Dr Derek Hook
Extra Ordinary Professor
He is a well-established and eminent researcher publishing prolifically on a number of topics. He had a lead editorial role in a series of books (Psychopathology and Social Prejudice (2002), Developmental Psychology (2002), Self, Community and Psychology (2004) and Critical Psychology (2004).

Prof Wilhelm Jordaan
Extra-Ordinary Professor
Wilhelm J. Jordaan is a graduate from the universities of the Free State, Stellenbosch and UNISA. He joined UNISA in 1969 and was appointed head of the Department of Psychology in 1987. He served in this capacity until 1995 when he was appointed Vice-Dean of the Arts Faculty. Since his retirement in 2000 he has been involved in the Masters and Doctoral Programmes in Leadership, Performance and Change as well as other postgraduate programmes of the Department of Industrial Psychology and People Management, University of Johannesburg. Since 2003 he has been serving as Extra-Ordinary Professor in the University of Pretoria’s Department of Psychology.

Prof Oliver Turnbull
Extra Ordinary Professor
Prof Turnbull earned his BSc and MSc at the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa, and his PhD at Cambridge University. He is currently a member of Wales Institute for Cognitive Neuroscience (WICN) in the School of Psychology, Bangor University – where he is also Pro Vice Chancellor.
