The Economics and Management Sciences (EMS) Faculty at the University of Pretoria is establishing a multidisciplinary and transdisciplinary Public Policy Hub (PPH) aimed at bridging the gap between policymakers, practitioners, field experts in the public sector as well as researchers in academia to strengthen evidence-based, contextually relevant, and sustainable public policy in Africa. The PPH’s overall goals and research focus areas are anchored and developed within the framework of the African Union’s (AU) Agenda 2063 and the Agenda 2030 on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The National Research Foundation (NRF) and Sasol are pleased to announce Sasol-NRF Postdoctoral Innovation Fellowships Program. This program is an extension of the Agreement to fund research in energy transition that was reached in December 2021.
The intent of this Fellowships Programme is to develop industrially relevant long-term research capacity in energy transition and sustainability at academic institutions by supporting Postdoctoral Fellows to undertake partnership research and innovation. The successful postdoctoral fellows will undertake research at South African institutions as well as at Sasol’s research facilities in Sasolburg for a period of up to two years.

Call for proposals from the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA) for the Ulam NAWA
The Postdoctoral Research Fellowship offers scientists with a doctoral degree a visit to Poland for a period between 6 to 24 months to conduct research and/or development work, post-doctoral training, receive post-doctoral training and obtain materials for scientific work or publication. In addition, the visit may also include conducting didactic classes at the Host institution. The visits of scientists must commence between 1 January 2022 and 1 October 2022.
Applications are strictly online and can be submitted until 15 June 2021 (3pm Poland time) via the NAWA ICT system.
The Ulam NAWA Programme covers the Fellow’s living allowance of PLN 10,000 a month, as well as a once off mobility allowance and other benefits.

Integrative Green Infrastructure Planning (GRIP).

The programme in Landscape Architecture under the Integrative Green Infrastructure Planning Project funded by DANIDA advertises two 24-month full-time postdoc positions.
First position: Mapping and Modelling the Functionality of Green Infrastructure //www.up.ac.za/media/shared/748/postdoc-position-in-gi-mapping-and-modeling_up-1.zp198047.pdf . This position is available for a postdoc interested in mapping and modelling multifunctionality of Green Infrastructure (GI) by working with GIS analysis and high-resolution satellite-based Earth observations (remote sensing) verified and qualified by ground-truthing. On the ground assessment of GI multifunctionality includes identification of the presence, role, and importance of native plant species in the local urban ecology and functioning together with the project team and local experts. In this position, the incumbent will explore the ecological importance of GI functionality in marginalised areas in the urban context of the City of Tshwane and surrounds. The ideal applicant would have a PhD related to one of the following fields: ecology, urban ecology, spatial geography, environmental science or landscape architecture.
Second position: Perceptions, Planning and Management of Green Infrastructure //www.up.ac.za/media/shared/748/postdoc-position-in-gi-perceptions-and-planning_up-3.zp198048.pdf . This position is available for a postdoc interested in working with sustainable city collaboration and assist public sector partners in matters of Green Infrastructure planning, management and governance. It will also focus on on-the-ground social-ecological feedbacks, finding connections between different ecosystem service benefits and relations between different ecosystem services. The role of native species in provisioning of services and disservices will be of interest, including how native biodiversity is perceived by city dwellers and how native biodiversity interaction influences people’s well-being and their perceptions of nature. In this position, the incumbent will explore the perception and governance of GI in marginalised areas of the urban context of the City of Tshwane and surrounds. The ideal applicant would have a PhD related to one of the following fields: urban ecology, human geography, political ecology, social sciences or landscape architecture.

Description | Aimed at young researchers from abroad who have completed a master?s degree or PhD. For South African citizens three different types of scholarships are offered starting in September 2020: 1) PhD Scholarships: Applicants should have a Masters degree or equivalent University degree recognized by a Swiss University. The scholarship is valid for 12 months and renewable for a maximum of 3 years. Applicants should have a letter from a Professor from the Swiss host institution stating that he/she is willing to supervise the PhD candidate. Applicants must submit a research proposal including a timeframe. The applicant must not be older than 35 years at the time of application 2) Postdoctoral Scholarships: The Scholarship is intended for highly qualified postdoctoral researchers from all academic fields.The applicants should have a PhD degree. The scholarship is valid for 12 months and renewable for a maximum of 6 months. Applicants should have a letter from a Professor from the Swiss host institution stating that he/she is willing to supervise the postdoctoral research. Applicants must submit a research proposal including a timeframe. There cannot be a gap of more than 5 years between the award of the PhD and the application deadline 3) Research Scholarships The Scholarship is intended for highly qualified postdoctoral researchers from all academic fields as well as young Medical Doctors.
