NRF Freestanding, Innovation and Scarce Skills Postdoctoral Fellowships Call for 2022.

The National Research Foundation (NRF) is pleased to announce the call for Postdoctoral Fellowship applications for 2022 in the following categories:

  •  Free-standing Postdoctoral Fellowships;
  • Innovation Postdoctoral Fellowships; and
  • Scarce Skills Postdoctoral Fellowships

 

Applicant Internal Submission Deadline: 09 April 2021 to allow for screening, and validation by institutional Designated Authority prior to submission to the NRF.

 

Designated Authority Approval Deadline: (Cut-off Date) 14 May 2021

Integrative Green Infrastructure Planning (GRIP).

Department of Architecture, University of Pretoria.

 

The programme in Landscape Architecture under the Integrative Green Infrastructure Planning Project funded by DANIDA advertises two 24-month full-time postdoc positions.

 

First position: Mapping and Modelling the Functionality of Green Infrastructure //www.up.ac.za/media/shared/748/postdoc-position-in-gi-mapping-and-modeling_up-1.zp198047.pdf . This position is available for a postdoc interested in mapping and modelling multifunctionality of Green Infrastructure (GI) by working with GIS analysis and high-resolution satellite-based Earth observations (remote sensing) verified and qualified by ground-truthing. On the ground assessment of GI multifunctionality includes identification of the presence, role, and importance of native plant species in the local urban ecology and functioning together with the project team and local experts. In this position, the incumbent will explore the ecological importance of GI functionality in marginalised areas in the urban context of the City of Tshwane and surrounds. The ideal applicant would have a PhD related to one of the following fields: ecology, urban ecology, spatial geography, environmental science or landscape architecture.

 

Second position: Perceptions, Planning and Management of Green Infrastructure //www.up.ac.za/media/shared/748/postdoc-position-in-gi-perceptions-and-planning_up-3.zp198048.pdf . This position is available for a postdoc interested in working with sustainable city collaboration and assist public sector partners in matters of Green Infrastructure planning, management and governance. It will also focus on on-the-ground social-ecological feedbacks, finding connections between different ecosystem service benefits and relations between different ecosystem services. The role of native species in provisioning of services and disservices will be of interest, including how native biodiversity is perceived by city dwellers and how native biodiversity interaction influences people’s well-being and their perceptions of nature. In this position, the incumbent will explore the perception and governance of GI in marginalised areas of the urban context of the City of Tshwane and surrounds. The ideal applicant would have a PhD related to one of the following fields: urban ecology, human geography, political ecology, social sciences or landscape architecture.

Zoonotic Arbo and Respiratory Virus Programme (ZARV) ( Closed )

Department of Medical Virology

 

The abovementioned research programme in the Department of Medical Virology based in the School of Medicine, Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Pretoria have two positions available, funded by the Robert Koch Institute and a network study between Germany, South Africa, Côte d'Ivoire, Burkina Faso and DR Congo.

 

The first position //www.up.ac.za/media/shared/748/zarv_postdoctoral-fellow_july-2020-1.zp192630.pdf is for a dynamic post-doctoral fellow, on a two-year contract, to manage the respiratory virus surveillance and research aspects of the African Network for improved Diagnostics, Epidemiology and Management of Common Infectious Agents (ANDMEMIA), including COVID19 with the South African Principle investigators. The project focuses on defining common and emerging causes of severe acute respiratory infections in South Africa and investigating the molecular and clinical epidemiology and genomics of known and emerging pathogens. The second position //www.up.ac.za/media/shared/748/zarv_technician_july-2020-1.zp192631.pdf is for a research technician, on a two-year contract, to participate in respiratory virus surveillance and research as part of the African Network for improved Diagnostics, Epidemiology and Management of Common Infectious Agents (ANDMEMIA), including COVID19 in South Africa. UP Postdoctoral Fellowship Programme: Call for Applications (Closed)

The University of Pretoria (UP) invites UP academic researchers to apply for Postdoctoral Fellowships at the University. The fellowships are aimed at enabling academic researchers to conduct research in areas aligned with UP's priorities, especially those that are related to UP institutional platforms such as Future Africa, the UP Javett Art Centre, and others.

Swiss Government Excellence Scholarship

 
Description Aimed at young researchers from abroad who have completed a master?s degree or PhD.

For South African citizens three different types of scholarships are offered starting in September 2020:
1) PhD Scholarships:
Applicants should have a Masters degree or equivalent University degree recognized by a Swiss University. The scholarship is valid for 12 months and renewable for a maximum of 3 years. Applicants should have a letter from a Professor from the Swiss host institution stating that he/she is willing to supervise the PhD candidate. Applicants must submit a research proposal including a timeframe. The applicant must not be older than 35 years at the time of application

2) Postdoctoral Scholarships:
The Scholarship is intended for highly qualified postdoctoral researchers from all academic fields.The applicants should have a PhD degree. The scholarship is valid for 12 months and renewable for a maximum of 6 months. Applicants should have a letter from a Professor from the Swiss host institution stating that he/she is willing to supervise the postdoctoral research. Applicants must submit a research proposal including a timeframe. There cannot be a gap of more than 5 years between the award of the PhD and the application deadline

3) Research Scholarships
The Scholarship is intended for highly qualified postdoctoral researchers from all academic fields as well as young Medical Doctors. The scholarship is valid for 12 months maximum and non-renewable. The applicant should have a Masters degree or equivalent. Applicants should have a letter from a Professor from the Swiss host institution stating that he/she is willing to supervise the research. Applicants must submit a research proposal including a timeframe. The applicant must not be older than 35 years at the time of application.
