The module comprises a study of selected capita of contemporary issues relating to the law of evidence. Aspects dealt with include the following:

  1. Relevance and the fact-finding process: problematic aspects
  2. Evidentiary aspects of the sentencing process with specific reference to the role of behavioural sciences
  3. Expert witnesses and the “hired gun” phenomenon
  4. A constitutional perspective on the privilege against self-incrimination
  5. Specific aspects of the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act
  6. Evidentiary aspects of the Sexual Offences Act
