Each student must apply immediately after first admission to the Registrar of the South African Veterinary Council for registration as a student in Veterinary Science. Registration is compulsory and must be renewed annually for the duration of the study.

After the degree has been conferred, graduates are required to register with the South African Veterinary Council as veterinarians before they may practise in South Africa in this capacity.

• Alle programme in hierdie Fakulteit is onderworpe aan onder meer keuringsprosedures wat akademiese meriete, die uitslae van die Nasionale Normtoets (NBT) en ’n Toegevoegdewaarde-vraelys insluit. Aansoekers wat BVSc (Baccalaureus in Veeartesykunde) of die Diploma in Veterinêre Verpleegkunde as hul eerste keuse aandui, sal voorkeur ontvang. Ten einde voorlopige toelating te behou, moet kandidate steeds aan die minimum vakvereistes en Toelatingspunttelling (TPT) voldoen op grond van hul finale skooljaar-eksamenuitslae.
• Die volgende persone sal vir toelating oorweeg word: ‘n kandidaat wat oor ‘n sertifikaat beskik wat deur die Universiteit as gelykstaande aan die vereiste Graad 12-sertifikaat met toelating vir graaddoeleindes aanvaar word; ‘n kandidaat wat ‘n gegradueerde van ‘n ander tersiêre instelling is of die status van ‘n gegradueerde van so ‘n instelling geniet; en ‘n kandidaat wat ‘n gegradueerde van ‘n ander fakulteit van die Universiteit van Pretoria is.
• Lewensoriëntering word uitgesluit wanneer die TPT bereken word.
• Die NBT en die Toegevoegdewaarde-vraelys is verpligte komponente van die keuringsproses. Aansoekers met ’n TPT tussen 30 en 32 sal oorweeg word vir toelating tot die BSc – Verlengde program vir die Biologiese en Landbouwetenskappe. Kandidate in hierdie kategorie word tot die tweede semester van die eerste jaar van die BVSc toegelaat na die suksesvolle voltooiing van die eerste drie semesters van die BSc – Verlengde program.

For some modules, only a promotional mark will be given; the module will be credited in a later semester.

Duration of study
(i) Six years of full-time study
(ii) Seven years of full-time study for those students who access the BVSc programme through the four-year BSc programme.

Clinical experience (including practical work)
Proof of satisfactory completion of prescribed clinical and practical components of the programme as prescribed below must be submitted to the Head: Student Administration of the Faculty, prior to the commencement of the final examinations. Failure to do so may lead to examination refusal.

• In state control of stock diseases and administration: experience at an approved institution as approved by the Dean.
• Practical and clinical experience at the Faculty and at approved private practices as well as other institutions as approved by the Dean.

The BVSc degree is conferred with distinction on a student who has obtained at least 60% for each module during the last three years of study, and a cumulative average of at least 75% for all the modules in the final year of BVSc study.
