The year has come to an end for the third-year BCom Marketing Management students who have worked on a practical integrated marketing project for Potatoes South Africa (PSA). A prize-giving function was held on 29 October 2015, where the top three groups were rewarded for their PSA projects. PSA sponsored a total of R8 800 prize money for the top three groups. At this event, Mr Rudolf Badenhorst, Market Development Manager at PSA, shared his feedback on the excellent work that the students have done this year. Prof Yolanda Jordaan, Head of the Department of Marketing Management, also engaged with the students and took them through the Department’s journey with PSA since 2007.
The biggest challenge has been conquered by these students. They had to develop practical marketing strategies for an unbranded product – the humble potato. The module started off with presentations on understanding the versatility of potatoes. Thereafter, a direct digital marketing campaign and a corporate social responsibility campaign had to be developed for PSA. A surprise deliverable was their last assignment before they had their big examination presentations on creating an integrated marketing communications campaign for PSA. The students had shown their talent throughout the year with all the creative ideas and quality work they have delivered. After the prize-giving ceremony, the top three groups were congratulated and enjoyed some refreshments, celebrating their achievements.
