National Tournaments finish off the season

Posted on September 20, 2013

TuksHockey had players in the Northerns team. Northerns Ladies went into their tournament without some key personnel due to injury and other commitments. This however did not dampen the morale in the camp and the team went into the tournament in good spirit. Port Elizabeth provided a great atmosphere for a week of high quality hockey and the weather was pleasantly accommodating. The Northerns Ladies once again finished in the top four beating North West in the third place playoff to win bronze. Southern Gauteng went on to win the tournament

Cape Town proved to be more testing for the men as the elements played a role in most of the games and a shuffle of venues on occasion. This particular tournament consisted of the strongest group of players in recent history with the majority of the current National players participating. TuksHockey had players in the Northerns team as well as the South Africa Under 21 team. Northerns Men were also depleted player wise with TuksHockey and current National player Jonathan Robinson unavailable due to illness. Northerns played an exciting yet unusual semi-final against Western Province with the rain leading to half the game being rained out and being completed the following day. The game was played on 3 different fields over 2 days, a bizarre scenario if ever there was one. Northerns men finished in fourth place with Western Province winning the tournament. The South Africa U21 team finished in 5th place.
