Research Centre for Maternal, Fetal, Newborn & Child Health Care Strategies (MFNCHCS)

The vision is to be the leading research centre by seeking saleable and sustainable solutions for preventing maternal, fetal, newborn and child morbidity and mortality in the primary and secondary levels of care and improving neurodevelopment in children to achieve a “quadruple return on investment”.

The Maternal and Infant Health Care Strategies Research Unit (MIHCSU) has been an extra-mural unit of the South African Medical Research Council (SA MRC) in partnership with the University of Pretoria since 1997 under the Directorship of Prof RC Pattinson.

The Unit, however, was awarded another status during 2017. Research Centre for Maternal, Fetal, Newborn and Child Health Care Strategies under the University of Pretoria. We are thus the same unit, but as a Centre, we now also report to an Advisory Board.
