Vision and Mission

The vision of the Energy Economics Unit (EEU) is to provide evidence-based, impactful, data-driven research on energy and environmental economics issues for South Africa, the African continent and the world. The EEU is hosted by the Department of Economics at the Faculty of Economics and Management Sciences (EMS) at the University of Pretoria. It comprises a group of enthusiastic, internationally recognised, expert researchers in energy economics and policy research. 

The EEU team aims to conduct analysis toward offering innovative policy recommendations and build a solid knowledge and understanding base of the energy economics fundamentals.

The EEU trusts in the next generation of energy economists; thus, capacity building is at the forefront of our activities. We combine our expertise in energy economics and modelling with our leadership skills to train PhD and postdoctoral researchers to become the energy leaders of tomorrow.
