The University of Pretoria’s Department of Early Childhood Development worked closely with the Ntataise Network to help it in its quest to “bring magic to the playroom”. Workshops held by Annalie Botha and Dr. Ina Jourbert, concentrated on the presentation of learning activities to children. Their aim was to improve the standard of teaching and learning at ED centres with an emphasis on developing young children’s early literacy and numeracy skills.
“The most exciting aspect of the whole exercise is that over the period of one year many practitioners changed form ‘surviving in their classes’ to becoming enthusiastic and active ‘guides’ of children in their care! By creating a change of attitude –from just participating to taking the lead in early childhood development – the Enrichment Programme has brought out valuable hidden and hitherto undiscovered qualities in trainers as well as practitioners” - Dr Ingrid Herbst, an expert in early childhood development.
