Students from the James Madison University, Virginia, USA, and TUKS ECE students in conversation

This all changed after an interactive presentation was held. Issues such as discipline were discussed as well as a first-hand account of the Americans teaching experiences with learners in Venda and in Pretoria schools.

During the presentation a challenge was posed to the students: “If they had unlimited funds, how would then improve the South African Education system?” Many relevant solutions were made, such as reducing class sizes by building new schools, producing more books with a South African context and providing more resources and training in schools.

The day ended on a high note, having spent hours experiencing a truly South African dining experience at Moyo’s in Groenkoof. Members of Tuks Creative, Candice Thompson and Shelise Dewing, whom in the week prior, presented the art of role play and dressed all 14 American students up as fairies, were also present at the dinner.
