Library resources and services from the 25th of November 2021

The COVID19 pandemic is still ongoing, and the Library will continue to align its operations to safeguard the health of all staff and students. It is our main priority to ensure that sufficient support and resources are available to enable the seamless continuality of research, teaching and learning. UP students and staff are therefore encouraged to continue using our comprehensive online collections and virtual information support services.

The library hours and services have been updated to offer more support during the examination period.

Access:

Limited on-site services are available for students with permits to access UP campuses and staff.

Please note:

• Walk-in students and staff need to report at the information desk when visiting the library.
• Browsing of our collections is now allowed.
• The Study Centre on Level 4 at the Merensky 2 Library will be open from 06:00 until 23:00 (booking is essential).
• Limited computers are available, but students are advised to bring their own devices.

Seat spaces

Limited seat spaces in each library will be available and must be booked online and in advance by clicking here. The number of seats available in libraries depends on the size and capacity of the specific library, as well as the regulations regarding the number of people allowed in a public space.

Research Commons

The Research Commons (on all campuses) will be open for a limited number of postgraduate students and must be reserved online and in advance. Make a new reservation by choosing your location, zone and category. 

Borrowing books

The contactless collection service for library material will continue. This service allows Library users to place requests for materials from the Library system, followed by communication between library staff and the student to collect them from the Library. View the procedure here. 

Health and safety measures and social distancing protocols remain applicable in all libraries.
