History of the Steve Biko Academic Hospital

The Steve Biko Academic Hospital (formally Pretoria Academic Hospital) is a purely quaternary healthcare institution, rendering specialised and highly specialised services to referred patients.

The Steve Biko Academic Hospital is situated about 800 meters directly north of the Tshwane District Hospital (old Pretoria Academic Hospital) and a tunnel connects the two facilities. The main access to the hospital is off Steve Biko Road left at the traffic light into Malan Street.

The relocation programme commenced on 16 January 2006.

The old Pretoria Academic Hospital has been commissioned as an autonomous 200-bedded community hospital now called Tshwane District Hospital.
