About us

The Clinical Unit Critical Care seeks to provide for the multidisciplinary needs of patients who have sustained, or are at risk of sustaining, acute life-threatening, single or multiple organ dysfunctions due to disease or injury.

Our Vision:

"We envisage a multidisciplinary Critical Care Service for the Steve Biko Academic Hospital to provide for the needs of these patients through immediate and continuous observation and intervention so as to restore health and prevent complications.
Thus we aim to serve the community of our region with dedication and vigour, ensuring a service of unsurpassed excellence."

Empowerment is our key to success

   Our Mission Statement:
  • To provide the highest quality of service across the spectrum of Critical Care needs to all categories of patients, in all areas of our hospital where acute care is called for.
  • To ensure that service is compassionate, efficient and effective at all times.
  • To provide an environment which will foster the pursuit of excellence in clinical care, research, education and professional development of staff.
  • To develop, maintain and efficiently utilise the resources necessary to accomplish this mission. (Health care professionals, monitoring and therapeutic modalities, information systems and appropriate organisational and management structures)
