Research Sub-theme

Bovine tuberculosis and brucellosis at the wildlife/livestock/human interface

Bovine tuberculosis and brucellosis are infectious, zoonotic multi-host diseases which thrive in multi-host ecosystems. The causative agents can be transmitted between livestock and wildlife and to humans, requiring in-depth studies of the epidemiology as well as optimised diagnostic and innovative control strategies.

Research Projects

  • Vaccination of African buffalo against bovine tuberculosis
  • Epidemiology of brucellosis in African buffalo
  • KAP study to assess control measures for bovine tuberculosis and brucellosis at the wildlife/livestock interface
  • Diagnostic developments for the detection of bovine tuberculosis in wildlife
  • Diagnostic developments for the detection of bovine brucellosis in wildlife
  • One health study on bovine tuberculosis at the wildlife/livestock/human interface
