Research Sub-theme

Veterinary diagnostic pathology and disease investigation

With the increased need to conserve biodiversity, the development of the game ranching industry and the hunger for information, the need for wildlife-specific diagnostic services, specifically diagnostic pathology, have increased tremendously over the past decade.

Considering the importance of the One Health approach, the investigation of disease plays a pivotal role in the health of wildlife, domestic animals and humans. In my opinion, pathology forms the backbone of this, especially since relatively little is known about the diseases of wildlife compared to domestic species and humans. Recently more and more cases are seen where diseases that were traditionally thought to only affect domestic animals, therefore the need for accurate diagnosis and subsequent research regarding this affect wildlife species.

Research Projects

Current my focus is on reporting on wildlife-related case studies involving diagnostic pathology, but plan on becoming more involved in specific wildlife-related research and collaborating with other affiliates of the Centre.
