  • Prof L'Abbé from the University of Pretoria was invited to give a lecture related to the Bakeng se Afrika project: Building a digital repository of donated skeletal remains: it's applications for research and ethics at the Global Perspectives and New Developments in Forensic Anthropology Lecture Series Frontiers of Forensic Sciences at the Amsterdam University Medical Centres (Netherlands) on 27 November 2019.

  • Introduction to geometric morphometrics and Mevislab workshop from 18-19 November 2019 hosted by Stellenbosch University and presented by the Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University team.

 

  • Bakeng se Afrika Interim Meeting I organised and hosted by Stellenbosch University from 18-22 November 2019. Various subjects were discussed: procedures for scanning, collecting data and quality assurance of the data, planning of mobilities, writing of the ethics consitution.

 

  • 3D imaging and geometric morphometric workshops organised in November 2019 at the Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University.

 

  • Article by Dr M. Cazenave from the Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University featuring the Bakeng se Afrika project in PLEXUS, the newsletter of the International Federation of Associations of AnatomistsBakeng se Afrika project - Digital repository of South African human skeletons.

 

  • Bakeng se Afrika team of the University of Pretoria attended the Faculty of Health Sciences Day on 21st August 2019.

 

  • Series of workshops hosted by the University of Coimbra in August and September 2019. Stories, anecdotes and pictures herehere and here, as well as on the host website, the Laboratory of Forensic Anthropology.

  • Article featuring the Bakeng se Afrika project in the micro-computed tomography X-ray imaging special issue of Quest: Science for South Africa, magazine published by the Academy of Science of South Africa in June 2019: Bakeng se Afrika: Forensics for Africa.

 

  • ​Training sessions and workshops on the basic concepts of imaging softwares organised in April-June 2019 at the University of Pretoria and the Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University.

 

  • Article featuring the launch of the Bakeng se Afrika project on the University of Pretoria website in March 2019: UP launches three-year Africa-focused programme to 3D-capture digital skeletal images.

 

  • Bakeng se Afrika Kick Start Meeting hosted by the University of Pretoria from the 5th to the 8th of February 2019. National and international delegates from all partner institutions attended. More details and pics in our blogpost!
