SPRINT BATTLE HEATING UP

Posted on June 09, 2015

Henricho Bruintjies became the fastest South African ever at coastal level, merely 4 days after Akani Simbine set a seasonal best and fastest coastal time of 10.08, when he won the 100m at the Josef Odlozil Memorial Meeting in Prague in a personal best of 10.06. With this time, he improved his personal best by .11 of a second which was set during the SA Senior Athletics Championships at the TuksAthletics Stadium in 2014.

Bruintjies was running against the SA record holder in the 200m, Anaso Jobodwana, which had a faster personal best going into the race. Not te be intimidated by this,  Bruintjies shot out of the blocks like a bullet and was leading from the start, never looking back. He finished the race almost a meter ahead of Jobodwana who clocked a seasonal best of 10.13. With this time, Bruintjies has now also qualified for the IAAF World Athletics Championships taking place in Beijing in August.

With this time, TuksAthletics now has 2 athletes running faster than 10.10 seconds and with both athletes being selected for the FISU Games in Korea, the men’s  4 x 100m relay team must be a favourite to bring back a gold medal in this event!
