Other athletes that also did well and advanced to their next rounds are Alet van Wyk, 400m, 3rd in heat 1 with a time of 54.49 (also her seasons best), Wille de Beer, 400m, 2nd in heat 4 with a time of 46.85 and Hannes Dreyer, 100m, 3rd in heat 7 in a time of 10.57.
Cherise Jones, 100m ladies unfortunately came 5th in the 2nd heat with a time of 12.05 and did not advance to the next round.

Hannes Dreyer was the only participant from Tuks in the evening session of the Universiade in Shenzhen of Day 1. After he easily qualified for the 2nd round earlier in the day, he had a bad start in his race in round 2 which he could not recover from and ended up in 5th place of the 2nd heat of the 100m for men with a time of 10.63. Unfortunately this time was not good enough as 1 of the fastest losers to advance to the semi-finals and he was eliminated from the competition.
