Architecture students from the University of Pretoria (UP) were awarded first and second place in the national Timber Design Competition. Shannon Govender tells us more about her design in the September Issue of WoodBiz. Nicola Smuts tells Joy Crane how she balanced timber aesthetics, structural integrity and design principles.

York Timbers sponsored the “Timber in Context” competition in partnership with the Department of Trade, Industry & Competition (the dtic) and the University of Pretoria, challenging designers and architects to explore new structural and ecological possibilities of timber construction through innovation in contemporary and traditional wooden materials.
