Posted on February 23, 2021

Allan Konya completed his professional bachelor’s degree in architecture at the University of Pretoria in 1958 and subsequently taught at his alma mater from 1967 to 1980. He practiced in Pretoria until 1980, where he completed numerous projects, including the St. Peter’s Seminary in Hammanskraal that was awarded an award of merit by the Institute of South African Architects. He relocated to England in 1980 where he continued to practice architecture and author architectural books.

Through his teaching, Konya made an impression on many of the lecturers and practitioners who are currently influential in the local architectural scene and his design legacy is manifest in a portfolio of beautiful houses he designed that still stand in Pretoria.

A collection of architectural drawings by Allan Konya is preserved in the Architecture Archives at the University of Pretoria (AAUP) where they will serve to inspire new generations of architects.
