Institute of Engineering Education Taiwan (IEET) accreditation

Prof Barker was part of a two-member international panel of the Canberra Accord that assessed the Architectural Accreditation Commission (AAC) of Institute of Engineering Education Taiwan (IEET) in Taipei from 5 to 9 November. The assessment of a body similar to that of the South African Council of the Architectural Profession (SACAP) started with a briefing at the IEET headquarters in Taipei. There the Canberra Accord panel of Prof Barker and Ms Sithabele Mathe (second from the left) from Botswana were briefed by Prof Liang-Jenq Leu, Secretary General & CEO of Accreditation Council Taiwan (IEET) (Institute of Engineering Education) and Dr Mandy Liu, IEET Office Director & Deputy Executive Director of the Accreditation Council.

The team observed an accreditation process of a local private university’s architecture program. At Tamkang University the panel was introduced to the department and its courses, staff and students. Prof Barker took part in a crit of a third-year project while the panel observed and assessed the accreditation team from IEET in action. The panel was also treated to special visits to local highlights such as Tapei 101 and the National Palace Museum.
