TOP UP STUDENT WINS PPC IMAGINARIUM AWARD

Posted on May 14, 2019

Wian Jordaan, top BScArch student of the class of 2018, was recently announced as the winner of the architecture category in the PPC Imaginarium Awards. His fellow student, Hano Venter, was placed fourth. More than 25 entries were received from third year students from southern Africa, including Namibia and Zimbabwe; this means that two architecture students from the University of Pretoria were placed in the top five undergraduate architecture students in southern Africa.

Wian’s project, entitled ‘Camara and the Clothing Factory’, is based on the narrative of a migrant to the Pretoria inner city. His design aimed at creating a humane environment of everyday lived experiences that depend on collective participation, informal appropriation and spontaneous interaction. The project proposes the replacement of form driven interventions with activity driven solutions.

Both Wian and Hano graduated with honours at UP’s autumn graduation ceremonies in April.
