BIO(S)

Elonah O'Neil-Reid: is an artist-designer-maker. She creates large scale sculptural installations that tell stories of spaces they are in and the people they are for. She sees installation art as an extension of the designed environment, an objective art form not bound by convention, making it the ideal vehicle to convey narrative.

I have a masters in Interior Architecture from UP. I did my thesis on paper architecture and emergency shelter. This led me to spend a lot of time in the packaging industry and the world of paper folding. From here I did my first installation from paper. I have since established myself as someone that does installation art, paper sculpture and packaging design. Some of my highlights include doing installations for Investec, Nandos, Tashas and Kohler, an editorial shoot for Cartier watches, a life size origami man for DSTv and paper clocks exhibited at the Everard Read Gallery.

Jason Wiggin: is Head of Department for Interior Design at the Greenside Design Center. Having finished my Masters in Interior Architecture at the University of Pretoria in 2010, I have a passion for lecturing and design and I am inspired by designers such as Jaime Hayon, Thomas Heatherwick, Anatomy Design and Philippe Starck.vI am a friendly imagineer living in a time of global interior complexity and contradiction. Capturing what I see within a digital kitsch palace and asking everyone to interrogate the seriousness with which they treat the space oddity of design.

My work crosses disciplinary boundaries, including art installations, product design, architecture, interior design as well as stage and set design. I have been involved academically at the Greenside Design Center, the University of Pretoria, University of Johannesburg and the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, Edinburgh College of Art and Shanghai College of Fashion. I have been involved in projects in the UK, the USA and Southern Africa.  I am past president of the African Institute of the Interior Design Professions (IID), contributing to the growth of the Interior Design professions.

Janes Botha: In 2003 an aspiring dentist nearly fainted during a medical practical. A paper based career seemed like a much safer alternative.

Janes Botha obtained his BSc(Int) degree at the University of Pretoria in 2005 (Cum Laude). He worked in a retail design practice for two years before returning to UP to complete his Master’s Degree in Interior Architecture. For a further two years Janes worked in a practice specializing in high-end residential design before starting an interior focused design studio in 2013.  Black Canvas Architectural Interiors’ aim is to obtain inspiration from any existing corporate identities, practical requirements, budgetary limitations and client phobias.

This information is then developed into a relevant design language.  The Pretoria based company is celebrating its 5th birthday this year. With a completed projects spectrum, ranging from mundane to taboo, our team is eagerly anticipating its next BLACK CANVAS.
