14 February 1978-8 June 2017†

Colleague and friend Fourie Pieterse passed away in the early hours of 8 June 2017 after a long battle with cancer.  Fourie was a valuable member of the landscape architectural staff in the Department of Architecture at UP.

He commenced with his BSc (LArch) studies at UP in 2000 and obtained his Professional Master’s degree (Cum Laude) in landscape architecture from UP in 2004.  He practiced as a PrLArch in Pretoria before moving to eThekwini where he was appointed as the City’s Landscape Architect.

We lured him away from Durban to take up a lecturer’s post in the Department in 2013 where he immediately immersed himself in his new tasks with dedication, friendliness, integrity and loyalty.  He was an excellent and appreciated lecturer who freely shared his knowledge and experience with our students and staff.  His students, in particular, found him approachable and always willing to listen and guide them in their projects.

In 2013 and 2014 Fourie served as National Judge for the annual SALI Awards of Excellence.

All of us will miss him

To Nell, their young son and daughter and to his family, our deepest condolences in these difficult times.

The staff and students from the Department of Architecture, UP.
