In 2015, a group of four postgraduate students launched a new journal of architecture for the Department of Architecture at the University of Pretoria. The first edition ‘Boukin: A Retrospective Introduction’ is now available to purchase. The intention of this publication was to make a contribution to the conversation on architecture in this country, as well as to situate our School of Architecture within the current paradigm. In this issue, we presented a selection of work, which included student designs, theory essays and contributions from lecturers on various research interests. Also included were a number of essays, concerning the role of architecture within the current climate, and analyses of a number of important built projects in South Africa.
