Project Team

Project Leader: Derick de Jongh

Prof Derick de Jongh, Director of the Albert Luthuli Centre for Responsible Leadership at the University of Pretoria in South Africa, is the Project Leader. He is responsible for the strategic direction of the project, and to oversee the planning and management of the project.

Project Manager: Willem Fourie

Dr Willem Fourie, Senior Lecturer in Ethics and Associate at the Albert Luthuli Centre for Responsible Leadership at the University of Pretoria in South Africa, is Project Manager. He is responsible for managing and coordinating the planning, research and policy functions of the project. He is also part of LfA’s LEADER5 initiative.

Project Associate (Policy): Tapani Vaahtoranta

Dr Tapani Vaahtoranta, Programme Director at the Uongozi Institute in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, is the Project Associate responsible for the developing the policy dimensions of the project. The policy track makes use of the findings of the research work. It also supports the research track by drawing attention to the challenges faced by democratic leadership and putting emphasis on transforming African leadership.

Media Advisor: Deon Meiring

Deon Meiring is a musician and videographer who advises on the creative development of the media initiatives of the project. He plays an important role in LfA’s LEADER5 initiative, which is aimed at document the leadership expectations of ordinary Africans across the continent. Click here for more information on LEADER5.

Research Support: Suzanne Kleynhans

Suzanne Kleynhans is a research assistant at the Albert Luthuli Centre for Responsible Leadership, she helps with the logistics, database research and editing of documents for the project. She is also busy with her Masters in Theology at the University of Pretoria.

Project Advisors

The leadership experts Prof Stella Nkomo (Department of Human Resource Management, University of Pretoria) and Prof Marius Pretorius (Department of Business Management, University of Pretoria) advise on key aspects of the research aspects of LfA.
