On October 3-4, 2024, Prof. Christopher Isike participated in the two-day Citizenship for Peace workshops at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC - official page) in Accra, Ghana.
The workshops on Day 1 provided capacity-building training to both market women and students on peace-building ahead of the Ghanaian election in December. Day 2 was a high-level Forum discussing the roles of women and youth as participants and partners in democracy and peace-building across West Africa. Prof Isike presented a keynote paper titled “The role of young people in rethinking and repurposing the state in West Africa” which was well received.
The two-day event was co-convened by Curtin University's Centre for Australia-Africa Relations( CAAR), KAIPTC, Australian High Commission Ghana, Own The Peace Africa, Impact Her World Foundation and WANEP_Regional, with support from the Tsuha Foundation. According to co-convener from Curtin University, Associate Professor David Mickler, Dean Global Africa and Director of CAAR, “this is a great Ghanaian-Nigerian-Australian collaboration” which featured representatives from the highest levels of the Ghanaian and Australian governments, civil society, military, women and youth in Ghana.
