Research

As its primary objective, the Centre will ensure that African scholarship which satisfies the vision, mission and objectives of the Centre will be prioritised. In this regard the Centre will support and advance research and to contribute to knowledge about the impact of religion in all areas of society, particularly public life and security. It will train leaders to engage with public life issues from theological perspectives. The following fields of research will be intrinsic to the Centre:

  • Religious Freedom
  • Religion and Human Rights
  • Faith and Economics
  • Religion and Law
  • Religion and Public Education
  • Religion and Media
  • Interreligious and intercultural dialogues

Further to the fields of research, the Centre will expand to include, as special projects, Neuro-scientific, psychological and anthropological approaches to religion. This will cover a period of 1000BCE – 1000CE. Finally, to conduct empirical studies on indigenous religions in South Africa with the intention of conducting such research in the ethnical language of the adherent’s of these religions.
