Vision and Mission
It is imperative for good quality education in South Africa (and the Southern African Development Community region) that expertise in evaluation and assessment is available at all levels in the system (national, provincial, and institutional) in order to monitor and address the quality of education at all those levels.
The vision of the Centre for Evaluation and Assessment (CEA) is to provide leadership in research within these fields and produce researchers and professionals who build and strengthen a base of expertise within agencies and institutions, both governmental and non-governmental, dealing with education and the quality thereof in South Africa and beyond.
The mission of the Centre for Evaluation and Assessment (CEA) is to establish a national centre of excellence in research on educational evaluation and assessment that forms the basis for enriching the knowledge base in these fields, improving the quality of education and building capacity among professionals in these areas.
The Centre for Evaluation and Assessment (CEA) has a focus on the domain of evaluation and assessment with the purpose of monitoring and enhancing the quality of education and training in South Africa and beyond. Through the Centre’s own research projects in evaluation and assessment and the research of master’s and PhD students in principle, all sectors and levels of education become the application areas of studies and projects. With this broad focus, the Centre becomes a partner for the departments and units in the Faculty of Education (and the University) that are focusing on specific sectors or problem areas in education.
