The Centre for Evaluation and Assessment (CEA) was established 21 years ago in the Faculty of Education at the University of Pretoria in recognition of the importance of the fields of evaluation, assessment, monitoring and quality assurance in ensuring the quality of education in South Africa and globally. The CEA The CEA has worked with and continues to work with various institutions and organisations such as government, non-government and the higher education sectors nationally and internationally to conduct research and development projects in supporting and promoting quality education.
The five main focus areas of the Centre for Evaluation and Assessment are:
3. Research Outputs: Generating research reports, presentations, workshops and academic articles,
books and monographs based on findings emanating from research projects.
As Director of the CEA, my vision for the Centre is that it continues to play a pivotal role in the generation and dissemination of important information and findings in the education sector. I will further work towards ensuring that the CEA continues as a centre of expertise, and professional knowledge in the fields of educational research and assessment, with a specific focus on the development and design of assessment instruments, large-scale assessment programmes and the application of assessment for the purpose of learning at all levels. My vision includes ensuring that the CEA is an epicentre for transdisciplinary research where we have collaborations and partnerships across Departments and Faculties in the University, and where the research capacity of postgraduate students is strengthened through exposure to large-scale studies.
Let me use this opportunity to invite you to join us at the CEA in our quest to achieve quality education for all through impactful research.
