Club Overview

Olympic Wrestling is arguably the oldest contact sport in history. Its benefits for human development in terms of fitness, strength, discipline and self-defence never diminished over the ages.

What better time and place to train to join us at TuksWrestling? We are the leading wrestling club in the country – both in size and quality of wrestlers on its roster. Our coaches predominately focus on freestyle, but also Greco Roman - the two styles of wrestling contested in the Olympic Games.

What's our objective? To produce quality wrestlers that continually compete successfully both locally and internationally. We consistently have achieved this objective over many years and put ourselves as one of the most successful clubs in South African wrestling history.
  • Renowned active club members: Bennie Labuschagne - 1992 Olympian, three-times African champion, Commonwealth Games medallist and named one of South Africa's six 'Wrestlers of the 20th Century'. Willem Putter - South Africa's only 12 times World Champion in the Masters' Division. Hein Barnes - 2008 Olympian and five times Commonwealth Games medallist.
  • With over 100 active wrestlers, Tuks Wrestling is one of the largest clubs in the country.
  • Both in 2018 and 2019, TuksWrestling won the Gauteng North Club League title. The league is regarded as South Africa's strongest wrestling Association’s inter-club competition.
An experienced management team elected by club members steers TuksWrestling strategically into the future. In 2021, the club appointed the 1992 Olympian, Bennie Labuschagne, as the head coach assuring stability and expertise in coaching for years to come. The South African Wrestling Federation elected him as the head coach of South Africa shortly thereafter.

TuksWrestling’s success can be primarily ascribed to a comprehensive coaching and mentoring system starting at the pre-school level and continuing at all levels of competitive wrestling. Continuous development of coaches not only assures detailed attention for each wrestler but also ensure that our junior wrestlers stay on to become experienced wrestlers through coaching.
