Biography

 

Dietitian and research assistant working in Community Oriented Primary care clinics, since 2017. Interest in diet diversity, food security, and growth monitoring in children under 5 years and pregnant women. Advocate for Breastfeeding promotion protection and support. Interested in making access to healthy diet affordable for all. 

Worked on a project titled "Mdantsane for Vitamin A" in collaboration with the Centre for Disease Control (CDC), American Education Department (AED) and University of Western Cape to promote vitamin A uptake in the community through social mobilization (2004). Research field worker in a Vitamin A survey (1999). Food consumption survey (2005). Fieldworker in a project titled "Food insecurity among students living with HIV: Strengthening safety nets at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, South Africa. (Steenkamp, Goosen, Venter and Beeforth.2016)".

Research description

 Currently involved in a research project titled: Sustainable Food System: An interdisciplinary study on food cultivation and production model for residents of the Cemetery View informal settlement in Pretoria East, Gauteng. (Meyer, 2021, UP) and M Dietetics. Nutritional status, diet diversity, food insecurity, and lifestyle factors of pregnant women at Community Oriented Primary Care (COPC) sites in Pretoria East, 2021 at Nelson Mandela Metropole University.
