About Us

The complexity and large-scale impact of the COVID-19 pandemic have highlighted the importance of One Health aligned transdisciplinary research. Understanding the complex connections between the natural environment, animals, and people requires a transdisciplinary One Health approach. Collaboration between multiple stake-holders from a research background and community-based organizations is a key aspect of One Health research. The UP-OHC, therefore, fosters collaborative and inclusive research projects across various disciplines that encompass community needs. Current projects address challenges and risks in society including human health systems, zoonotic disease, food security, education, and socio-economic problems.  Lessons learned from the current pandemic can be applied in the long term to prepare for future pandemics.

The University of Pretoria’s One Health for Change (UP-OHC) welcomes interested individuals/organizations to join the network. Members of UP-OHC gain the opportunity to:

  • Connect with potential collaborators on multidisciplinary research.
  • Share community outreach efforts linked to One Health projects.
