About us

UP Campus Tours is a student-managed simulated business venture situated on Hatfield Campus of the University of Pretoria. The venture forms part of the Honours degree in Heritage and Cultural Tourism, whereby post-graduate students are introduced to the practical aspects of managing a tourist guide organisation. The aim is for the students to gain knowledge in all aspects of the business, which are of vital importance to their future careers, including: set up of the agency, marketing, finance, administration, event co-ordination, management, planning and facilitation of campus-wide tours. The organisation offers customized tours on the university campus to a wide range of visitors such as: visiting academics; foreign dignitaries; exchange students; prospective students and family members; university staff and school groups.

Under the watchful eye of Karen Harris, head of the Department of  Historical and Heritage Studies, as well as the Director of the University Archives, students are required to conduct in-depth research on the University’s history and development, including: research highlights, architecture, faculties and facilities, art collections, University and staff achievements. Knowledge gained here along with interesting anecdotes about student life is then incorporated into walking tours of Hatfield Campus of the university, conducted by the students themselves.

Tours are customised to suite the client’s needs with regard to length, focus and preference; and may be conducted in a variety of languages depending on the proficiency of the specific year’s group. Established in 2002, UP Campus Tours has a proud record of delivering a professional service across campus. It resorts under BE@UP as a non-profit educational enterprise.
