UNISA-UP Workshop2016

The 3rd UNISA-UP Workshop has finished - thank you to everyone who participated. Please check this space for future developments.

Dates: 27 February to 5 March 2016

Venue: Pure Joy Lodge & Conference Centre, Pretoria

The joint workshop between the University of South Africa (UNISA) and the University of Pretoria (UP) in Theoretical and Mathematical Epidemiology will be the last in a series of three. Download the Workshop flyer here.

The main aim of all three workshops is to produce a local pool of expertise in the area of Mathematical Epidemiology and Mathematical Modeling. It is hoped that new results be obtained during the intensive interactions of participants and the team of local and international experts. The emphasis will be on in-depth qualitative and quantitative study of the models with the aim of better understanding the diseases and their control.

This 3rd workshop aims to build on the success of previous workshops with particular focus on:

  • formulation of deterministic and stochastic epidemic models
  • formulation of models with diffusion and/or delay
  • parameter estimation and sensitivity analysis
  • investigating case studies to highlight the impact of the control measures of infectious diseases and the design of health policies

Format

The workshop will be divided into two main parts:

  • 27 – 28 February 2016: An intensive preliminary two-day workshop will be presented to accommodate newcomers and beginners to inform them of the material dealt with during the first two workshops

  • 29 February to 5 March 2016: (a) formal lectures conducted by invited speakers for all participants and (b) participants’ presentations on their own research.
