The national men's 4x100m team charged to an impressive victory on Thursday night, leading a large group of South African athletes who turned out at the Golden Spike Meeting in Ostrava, Czech Republic, which formed part of the IAAF World Challenge series.
The SA 4x100m squad which featured Henricho Bruintjies, Simon Magakwe, Thando Dlodlo and anchor Akani Simbine, won the sprint relay in 38.65 seconds, with an international All Stars team taking second place in 38.81.
All four athletes also took part in individual races later in the programme, along with a handful of their compatriots in various other disciplines.
African champion and Tuks based athlete, Simbine, finished fourth in the men's 100m A race in 10.08 seconds, crossing the line 0.04 off the pace of American winner Mike Rodgers, while Simon Magakwe took sixth position in 10.16.
South African speedsters were also prominent in the men's 100m B race, which was won by American Bryce Robinson in 10.22, with 20-year-old Dlodlo taking the runner-up spot in 10.24, while Thando Roto (Tuks) ended fourth in 10.29 and Henricho Bruintjies finishing fifth in 10.34.
National record holder and Tuks based athlete, Clarence Munyai, took another step forward in his comeback from a lengthy absence due to injury, grabbing third place in 20.31 in the men's 200m race, which was held in wet conditions.
Fellow sprinter Thapelo Phora finished fourth in the men's 400m race in 46.14, while middle-distance runner Tshepo Tshite was fifth in the men's 800m event in 1:46.18 and Orazio Cremona ended eighth in the men's shot put with a best attempt of 19.57m.
