Traditionalists scoffed at the flexibility offered by the programme, and blue blood academics expressed concern about the academic standard of a school made up of only young sportsmen and women. Parents feared that teachers at a sport school weren’t truly qualified and that the matric certificate would be sub-standard. The only people who believed whole-heartedly in the concept were the coaches who (mistakenly) rubbed their hands in glee at the prospect of sport trumping academics.

Little did they know….

Ten years later TuksSport High School is not only going strong but is proof that commitment and dedication are the key ingredients to making a dream come true. The learners who attended the school over the last ten years showed that it is possible to find a balance between high performance sport and academics, it is possible to be absent from school to compete on national and international level and  still cope with homework, assignments and exams. It is possible to live the dream of becoming a professional sportsman/woman while still at school. It is possible, because we make it possible.

We are very proud of our academic standard and of the 100% pass rate obtained by the Grade 12s in all years but one. We take pride in the supportive structure that the school and the hpc offers, and which enables our learners to excel. In 2011, three learners achieved their Full Senior National Colours and 36 their Junior National colours, while 77 obtained Senior and Junior Provincial colours – all this from a school with a mere 200 learners.

If you are a true competitor with a passion for sport, then TuksSport High School is the school for you. We offer quality education in a flexible and supportive model which allows high-performance athletes to complete their high school education without compromise to either their sport or education. TuksSport High is not a school for everyone, but if you are truly passionate about your sport and serious about your academics, it is the school for you!
