That time has come in my life where I bid farewell to the competitive world of swimming as I embark on my next chapter in life. Although I am saddened to announce my retirement, I am also excited for the opportunities that lay ahead.

Cameron van der Burgh won South Africa's first medal at the Olympic Games in Rio early on Monday morning when he finished second in the 100-metre breaststroke.

Cometh the hour, cometh the man. This saying has been applicable to the swimming career of Cameron van der Burgh (Tuks/hpc). His 15 medals in ten years at the World Championships and the Olympic Games are proof of this.
