Step It UP Finals 2018
The ladies and gentlemen of the TuksRes community really did step it up. The performances contained
humour, choreography and song choices that were absolutely scintillating to observe.
The gentlemen stunned audiences with their explosive energy. Olympus produced a funky, fresh “Thrift shop” inspired performance. The relatively small group executed their moves with precision and force and ensured the audience heard every single word sung. Boekenhout came on stage in white half masks as part of their “Phantom of the Opera, Mzanzi Tour” theme. Special effects and the element of surprise seemed to be Boekenhout’s main goal, creating a riveting experience. Mopanie reminded us all of the “Forgotten lives of Disney Princes”. There was no shortage of humour throughout their performance, which only contributed to the fun of their performance. Taaibos took us on a trip “Around the World” that could satisfy any wanderlust in the crowd. The Taaibos men probably need new passports after such an eventful trip.
Many of the ladies this year focused on themes aimed at love. Katjiepiering took on self-love using the “
Ladies in Red” as their theme. It was not only a thrilling performance but rather inspirational as well.
Magrietjie’s theme this year was “The Affair”. The Magrietjie ladies had bewitching dance moves to thrill
all who beheld them. Curlitzia performed as “Puppets”. The ladies ended their performance having
liberated themselves from the strings that held them in the most fierce way possible. Erika strutted onto
the stage with “Vogue: Runway Models” as their theme. We'll probably see them on the next edition of Vogue strutting down the catwalk.
Asterhof were out of this world with their theme “Asternauts”. Through an action-packed adventure, the Asternauts came to the conclusion that Earth was our only planet, and the judges came to the conclusion that they were Step It UP’s overall winner for 2018.
