UP's Got Talent
UP's Got Talent is an annual talent competition held in partnership with UP RAG. During RAG of Hope Day, talented participants take the stage in the buzz of the RAG activities. Performers can showcase any talents that can be performed on stage. These can include but are not limited to: singing, dancing, poetry recitals, comedy acts, and acting. Acts are scored by a panel of judges who are experts in their profession, have experience on a wide variety of performance acts and have an eye for talent. Although UP's Got Talent is a competition, it is also an opportunity for students to share their talents with the UP community and gain performance experience.
This event will take place on 26 February 2022.
Nothing but Vernac
Nothing but Vernac is a themed annual event, that takes place at the piazza on main campus. It is a platform for students to express themselves on a stage in any vernacular language. The performances can be in the form of (but not limited to) poetry recitals, music, dance, storytelling and drama.
Expression runs concurrently with Nothing but Vernac. Participating residences and faculty houses set up gazebos in the lawn area of the piazza and display photographs, paintings, drawings and poems that are an interpretation of the theme. The displays are judged and there are prizes presented at the end of the event.
The event that was held in April 2022 at the Piazza.
There is no entry fee for this event, but we are asking for donations of non-perishable food and/or other donations for students in need.

STEP IT UP
StepItUP is one of the events that Student Culture hosts each year. It is a sing and dance competition with the occasional dialogue and promotes diversity and multiculturalism in theme and music. Like 1nsync, StepItUP focuses on promoting togetherness in the student body at the university by not marginalising students who wish to participate in the competition. Provisions are made for students in all day houses, residences and faculty houses at the univeristy to participate in the competition.
Unlike 1nsync, participation is not exclusive to first-year students but is open to all students at the university. Structures compete against each other and at the end of the night, the best performance for each category (men, ladies and mixed-gender group) will be crowned the champions.
In 2022 we have decided to give Step It Up a Twist, We will be having three nights of STEP IT UP. the first two nights will be knockout stages and the finals will be on 14 May 2022 .Tickets for the 14th May Step It Up Finals are availible on Tixsa at R100- Aula and R120- Amphitheatre.

The main purpose of the event is to highlight the multiculturalism of the University and the musical talent the students have to present, and this is a great form of exposure for many students as it affords them the opportunity to participate in a cultural event of a high standard.
UP A Capella consists of a minimum of 10 participants and a maximum of 20. The groups are expected to perform in acapella style (non-electrical instruments are allowed) for a maximum of 17 minutes performing songs (preferably popular songs) from South Africa and the world.
