The 2013 TuksSquash Season

Posted on September 23, 2013

After starting off very well form was not maintained and a couple of key matches were allowed to slip away and the men’s team ended as runners-up in a very competitive league. League is a marathon not a sprint and consistency is the key. Unfortunately our “boys” were not quite able to carry it off.

The men’s second and third teams both ended a creditable fourth in second and third league respectively whilst unfortunately the fourth and fifth teams both came last in their respective leagues.

Tuks has two ladies sides in first league, the one finished third and the other last. In spite of the bottom position we feel having the second side in first league provides a valuable learning and development opportunity for our young players which will benefit both Tuks and Northerns in the long run.

USSA was a similar story, with Tuks finishing as runners-up to UJ in a very close final. Unfortunately some players’ form deserted them at a crucial time, and that was reflected in the loss.

The majority of our players train very hard yet seem unable to produce the results they desire. It would seem appropriate therefore to review the training programmes to see if we can work smarter rather than harder, and produce the wins that the effort put in deserves.
