Dr Camille Castelyn is a transdisciplinary scholar and project leader whose work bridges public health, and ethics. She holds a PhD in Health Ethics from the University of Pretoria and a Certification in Bioethics from Columbia University, New York. A certified Project Management Associate (IPMA Level D), she currently serves as project manager of the Albert Luthuli Leadership Platform for Health at the University of Pretoria. The Albert Luthuli Leadership Platform aims to reimagine health leadership in Africa. Along with the ALLP-H team, Camille presented primary research on the challenges and opportunities facing healthcare leaders in 11 African countries at this year’s Public Health Association of South Africa’s conference.
She is deeply invested in understanding and guiding the ethical integration of emerging technologies. Her research explores the moral dimensions of AI, gene therapies, resource allocation, leadership, palliative care, genetic counselling and the interface between religious and cultural dimensions of health care knowledge in the South African healthcare system.
She brings over 3 years of experience to her roles on clinical ethics, research ethics and data access committees.
Dr Castelyn is a member of the Youth and Early Career Geneticists Group of the South African Society of Human Genetics, where she leads capacity-building initiatives and knowledge-sharing platforms. In addition, she serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Theoretical & Philosophical Psychology. She also regularly contributes to international discourse on the intersection of ethics, technology and human wellbeing at the Innovative Bioethics Forum, an international group of ethicists, doctors and lawyers.
Committed to shaping inclusive and responsible discussions, she provides ethical guidance that reflects both global standards and local realities. Her work consistently emphasises the need to align health technologies with social justice, equitable access, and culturally grounded care.
